Holy Days Hedgerow Communion 2024

With Simon Lockett and Bridget Rowan

Lammas is a celebration of the summer and the gathering of the grain harvest, usually around the 1st August.  In old times the whole village would help to cut, thresh, store and stack the wheat, barley, oats and rye and after this was done there was a celebration to John Barleycorn with feasting and counting their blessings.  It is the festival of gratitude for what the earth has provided especially when there are those in the world going hungry. The last sheaf was often cut by the youngest girl present and fashioned into corn dollies that were paraded through the village and burnt ceremonially on the Lammas fire or hung above fireplaces. The grain will provide food through the winter and seeds for planting for the following harvest. This holy day also marks a turning point as the whispers of Autumn arrive.  On a personal level this is a time to celebrate your achievements so far and contemplate what seeds you would like to incubate within over the coming months.

Simon Lockett and Bridget Rowan invite you to join them to celebrate Lammas on Tuesday 30th July 6.30pm at Craswell Church with a Hedgerow communion and meditation.  Please bring an offering from your harvest (grown or made) to add to the basket of abundance that we will all take from.

All are welcome and bring your own spirituality.
